Coach: Joy Zhou- ECE Club and Coaching Director
About Coach Dayu

Coach Dayu has two years of high school varsity experience as a starting player on the Montgomery County Walt Whitman High School team, playing as a utility player in many different positions. Coach Dayu has also played for 3 years on the University of Maryland Men’s Club Volleyball team, also playing as a utility player in the form of libero, setter, and wing spiker. He has played for 6 years and then coached for the past 5 years under the tutelage of fellow ECE coach “Joy” Xiaolan Zhou at a volleyball clinic in Montgomery County.
Dayu’s coaching experience is not limited to volleyball. Having been a competitive swimmer for the majority of high school, he has coached for the Montgomery County Swim League during the summer seasons since age 16. As a former assistant coach of the TallyHo Swim Club program, Dayu has coached children of all ages on the swim team, teaching them both life-saving skills as well as competitive values while still maintaining a fun atmosphere. The team has won 3 division titles during the years he has coached and is currently ranked within the top 6 of the 91 teams of the league, rising from the “H” division from when he started coaching to the top “A” division in the county league.
Coach Dayu’s coaching style is high energy and involves encouraging and developing team-based abilities including communication and court awareness in order to achieve team goals as opposed to relying on individuals to bring success to the team. He believes that working hard and having fun at the same time is essential to developing a player’s physical, mental, and social growth within the team. He is IMPACT certified.
