Ben started playing volleyball under the leadership of coach “Joy” Xiaolan Zhou when he was in the 8th grade. The next year, Ben’s freshman year, he made Wootton High School’s Boys Volleyball Varsity team. During the course of the 4 years that he played for Wootton, Ben won 2 championships, all-county team recognitions, and an overall win/loss ratio of 58-2 games. By junior year, Ben was a starter on the Wootton team, and he began counseling at the clinic run by Coach Joy. He remains a counselor there today.
Currently, Ben is a sophomore, and this is Ben’s second year as a starting libero for UMBC’s Men’s Club Volleyball team. Last year UMBC placed 9th in the nation out of 64 teams.
Ben is excited to coach for ECE, and he can’t wait for the rest of the season to unfold. He’s ready for unforgettable memories, and connections with the players!
