Andrew is a first year coach at ECE who contributes his experience as an outside hitter and middle back defensive specialist. During his high school years, Andrew earned the nickname of legendary #16 for his athleticism in the air and ability to adjust and fight to save balls people normally would have considered unplayable.
Andrew has worked to train players new and experienced in the sport since 2009 under the tutelage of Coach Joy Zhou. In the recent years, Andrew has helped found the DMV Volleyball Camp to help teach and strengthen volleyball basics in children ages 8 to 18 years old. The camp is hosted by the Chinese In American (CIA) volleyball club that Andrew plays for during the summer. Andrew is a light-hearted coach who likes long walks on the beach, watching the sunset, and prefers to coach with the inputs of his players, opposed to directing without their thoughts in mind.
Andrew believes in solidifying basic techniques in a player above all else. He expects his players to play with the motivation to win and a drive to never give up on any ball that is still in play. Andrew is a team-oriented coach who believes that over winning, players should develop a connection and bond with their team to improve individually and together.
Two of Andrew’s favorite sayings are “I don’t care if you’re enemies off the court; on the court, you can only depend on each other” and “Why didn’t you go for that ball?”
