The 16s played their first major tournament in Washington, DC over Valentine’s weekend. The three day Capital Hill Classic was a first for some of our players who quickly adapted to the different atmosphere of such a large, long tournament. This year’s CHC posed the additional challenge of navigating home during the Valentine’s day ice storm, robbing our players of several hours of needed sleep.
Despite weekend’s challenges, Coach Dani was pleased once again with the team’s showing. “It is not very often I can introduce 3 new offensive plays at the practice before a tournament, force them to be run at the tournament, and watch the team have success running them,” said Coach Dani. “This team continues to impress me. Like many other teams, we have our good games and our bad games. But the most important thing is when I talk to my players about what needs improvement, they provide the feedback I’m looking for and continue to work on it throughout the day. The key to a championship team comes from within each and every player, and each and every one of my players plays an important role on this team.”
The team ended the tournament with a 50% win percentage (placing them in the middle of the division in the final standings) and won the Flight 3 A bracket. Congratulations ladies, and let’s keep improving every week!
